The course aims to give the students elements of hygiene and epidemiology for health promotion.
|
|||
educational aims:
LEARNING RESULTS To know the elements to promote health and a preventive culture, especially in the schools and among the youngs and to identify social determinants of health (“weak” persons) and measure health status.
SKILLS TO LEARN To promote health and a preventive culture, to carry out researches with scientific method, to analize and present data, to develop technical and personal skills in order to work well with collegues.

Germs, diseases, ways of transmission and preventive measures: cleaning, disinfection and hand washing, Vaccines and Immunization. Use of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. Indicators of social and health level, Millennium Goals, rates, demographic and epidemiological transmission, types of prevention and health promotion, risk factors, multiple causes, tobacco and dependence, second and third hand smoking and children exposition, obesity and healthy nutrition, food-borne outbreaks and celiac disease and their prevention, measurements of frequency and of association, causality, health education. Immigration in Italy and in the world, global health, the role of education. Indoor hygiene: micro-climate and school environment.

The evaluation of students will be done through a written multiple choice test of quiz on all topics taught in the course. The students who do not attend the lectures will have to answer to some open questions to.
